John Wayne: Bigger Than Life DVD
Written by PR Release - Synergy Entertainment

john_waynebiggerthnlife-200.jpgJohn Wayne: Bigger Than Life rides onto DVD Jan. 25 in a special three-disc set from Synergy Entertainment (distributed by Music Video Distribution). Iowa-born Marion Robert Morrison (1907 - 1979) was better known by his stage name, John Wayne. The 6'4" actor, director and producer epitomized rugged masculinity and has become an enduring American icon, famous for his distinctive voice and swaggering walk in such films as Rooster Cogburn, The Quiet Man, Flying Leathernecks and Hellfighters.   "I want to play a real man in all my films and I define manhood simply," Wayne once said of his career. "Men should be tough, fair and courageous, never petty, never looking for a fight ... but never backing down from one either."

This special collector's set includes the western comedy McLintock! (1963), in which Wayne plays cattle baron George Washington McLintock who fights his wife, daughter and political land-grabbers, finally "taming" them all. Co-starring Maureen O'Hara (Miracle on 34th Street, Only the Lonely and four other films with Wayne), Stefanie Powers (TV's Hart to Hart, Hollywood Wives), Yvonne De Carlo (The Ten Commandments, TV's The Munsters), Jerry Van Dyke (TV's Coach, Yes, Dear, The Judy Garland Show) and Wayne's son, Patrick.

Also featured are three engrossing documentaries: Bigger Than Life (1990), covering the legend's life and films; The American West of John Ford (1971), highlighting the career and western films of acclaimed director John Ford, including interviews with Wayne and other colleagues; and No Substitute for Victory (1970), hosted by Wayne, about the communist threat and its zenith in Vietnam.

Also includes rare TV appearances by Wayne on Art Linkletter's People Are Funny (1958); The Colgate Comedy Hour (October 11, 1953); Wide Wide World (1958) in a segment called "The Western"; and The Lucy Show (1966), in which Wayne plays himself as Lucy (Lucille Ball) is sent to deliver some papers pertaining to the financing of one of his latest productions.

John Wayne: Bigger Than Life is presented in full frame with an aspect ratio of 4x3 and original mono sound.
