Rose McGowan joins Robert Osborne for TCMs THE ESSENTIALS
Written by TCM PR Release

robertosbornesm.jpgRose McGowan, who recently wowed audiences with her performance in the movie double-feature Grindhouse, is coming to Turner Classic Movies (TCM) in March 2008 as co-host of THE ESSENTIALS, the network's signature movie showcase entering its eight year. McGowan will take a chair opposite TCM host Robert Osborne, just as she did during TCM's recent Guest Programmer month in November 2007. Each Saturday at 8 p.m. (ET), Osborne and McGowan will introduce "must see" movies with an eye toward helping viewers better understand why these films are important and the impact they had on audiences and the culture at large.

When:

aprtment-jackfrancards.jpgSaturday, March 8, 8 p.m. (ET) The Apartment

Rose McGowan: "Wilder is the master of humorous loneliness."

Fun Fact: In addition to this movie, Billy Wilder used Fred MacMurray's character name, Sheldrake, in his scripts for the movies Sunset Boulevard, Ace in the Hole and Kiss Me, Stupid.

Saturday, March 15, 8 p.m. (ET) The Music Box

Rose McGowan: "Laurel and Hardy are the Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire of physical comedy."

Fun Fact: The Music Box was the only time Laurel and Hardy won an Academy Award together. The famous line in Sons of the Desert ("Well that's another fine mess you've gotten me into") was voted #60 on the American Film Institute's list of 100 Most Memorable Quotes.

Saturday, March 22, 8 p.m. (ET) The Bad and the Beautiful

Rose McGowan: "Kirk Douglas trying to rise to be this great man and turning into something else is a universal thing that you've probably seen in your own family or people that you know."

Fun Fact: Many believe Kirk Douglas' character, Jonathan Shields, was loosely based on film producer Val Lewton. In the movie, Shields is making a movie called The Cat Man. He hates the costumes for the title characters so much he decides to ditch the outfits and only show the villains in shadows, a trademark created by Lewton in The Cat People.

Saturday, March 29, 8 p.m. (ET) The Great Escape

Rose McGowan: "It's really iconic, American individualist at its best."

Fun Fact: Steve McQueen did his own motorcycle riding and the motorcycle riding of the Germans chasing him in many of the scenes it was actually McQueen chasing McQueen. However, the climactic jump over a fence was performed by McQueen's friend, Bud Elkins, manager of a Los Angeles motorcycle shop.
