When Harry Met Sally Collectors Editon DVD
Written by Diana Saenger

You can tell a movie is a success when either a dialogue line or a scene is repeated, copied or morphed for years following its release. No simulated scene of sexual satisfaction by a fully clothed female will ever stand up to Meg Ryan's (Sally) scene in When Harry Met Sally when she and Harry (Billy Crystal) meet in a diner. It's a priceless scene that speaks volumes about the moment and her and Harry's relationship.

The line that follows, spoken by a patron in the diner, "I'll have what she's having," is also a classic. When Harry Met Sally is a romance of convenience. College students Harry and Sally meet when they discover they're each heading to New York and decide to ride there together.

When they run into each other five years later, they make small talk, then each more on with their lives. Another five years go by when they meet again and each now single, begin a friendship that eventually turns into something more.

Having a relationship hold interest over an 11 year period where little sizzle surfaces is a credited to both screenwriter Nora Ephron (she was nominated for an Oscar for the screenplay) and director Rob Reiner. Of course both leads talents also are responsible for making this a great romantic-comedy that has stood the test of time.

Ryan's performance as a clean-cut gal who, along with Harry, wants to figure out what makes them different and how they create a spark that bears a resemblance to a fairy tale romance. This role propelled her into stardom.

Crystal surprised his fans in the way he made his comedic talents jump off the page and sear Harry and Sally's relationship, which upped his value as a noted actor with a broad range.

When Harry Met Sally is a great, funny movie that can be watched again and again and belongs on any true movie fan's shelf. This collector's edition is amazing with all the extra features it includes. Watching them all will require two bags of popcorn but is certainly worth the extra calories!
