Mod Squad, The Season One DVD
Written by Diana Saenger

the_mod_squadgroupbw.jpgThe Mod Squad Season One, Volume One, the groundbreaking police drama that helped define a generation made its long-awaited DVD debut December 18, 2007, from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment.   From producers Aaron Spelling and Danny Thomas, The Mod Squad featured three young, rebellious and hipper-than-hip undercover detectives with a touch of menace and plenty of attitude. Recruited for a covert unit by is Capt. Adam Greer (Tige Andrews) that would help bridge the generation gap, the trio consisted of rich, long-haired Pete Cochran (Michael Cole), Lincoln "Linc" Hayes (Clarence Williams III) from the tough streets of inner city Los Angeles and beautiful flower child and damsel in distress Julie Barnes (Golden Globe-Award winner Peggy Lipton).

Michael Cole & Peggy Lipton in My What A Pretty Bus
Anyone who remembers watching this show will certainly acknowledge the show was groundbreaking, innovative and made its mark on pop culture. I was at a significant turning point in my life in 1968, and as I reveal in my recent interview with Michael Cole, this show opened my eyes to new possibilities.

In addition to entertainment, The Mod Squad showed us cops aren't always perfect, that sex and race had no boundaries in law enforcement, and that drama could be infused with comedy. Watching these DVDs whether again, or for the first time, is a hoot!

The first time on DVD, The Mod Squad Season One, Volume One includes 13 episodes from the inaugural season, plus the featurettes Forming The Squad and Friends of The Mod Squad as well as an inside look at the pilot episode, The Teeth of the Barracuda.   Available for $42.99, The Mod Squad Season One, Volume One is a four-disc set presented in full screen with English Mono. The DVD is not rated in the U.S. and rated PG in Canada. The total running time is 11 hours, 33 minutes.
