Celebration of Hollywood Stars Includes Tributes to Peter O'Toole, Joan Crawford, Elvis Presley, Sean Connery, Doris Day and Ronald Reagan                                      

becket.jpgFor the fifth consecutive year, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is dedicating all of August to its SUMMER UNDER THE STARS movie festival, in which each of the 31 days showcases a Hollywood legend for an entire 24 hours.   Among the highlights of this year's event are a celebration of Peter O'Toole's 75th birthday on Thursday, Aug. 2, which will feature the recently restored version of the classic Becket.


Also in the summer line-up are; a 90th birthday celebration for Robert thunderroad.jpgMitchum on Monday, Aug. 6, which includes Thunder Road, a movie he also wrote; a commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death on Thursday, Aug. 16; and a reverse look at the career of Buster Keaton, from his latest movies to his earliest, on Thursday, Aug. 30.   Among others featured will be day-long celebrations of the careers of Elizabeth Taylor (Aug. 1), William Holden (Aug. 4), Myrna Loy (Aug. 9), June Allyson (Aug. 13), Ronald Reagan (Aug. 24), Roy Rogers (Aug. 28) and Sean Connery (Aug. 31) to name a few.

Assembled from the network's library of more than 5,000 films, this one-of-a-kind festival is something only TCM can present.   For viewers, this is an opportunity to enjoy a varied selection from a star's body of work, uncut and commercial free, whether it's indulging in the work of a favorite actor or sampling something new.
