A young couple's fledgling marriage falters as they struggle to balance career and commitment in a perceptively modern drama. Actress Cicely Tyler (Margaret Sullavan) plans to put aside her Broadway ambitions when she marries ambitious reporter Christopher Tyler (James Stewart), but a former beau (Ray Milland) makes her an offer she can't refuse. Just as she gets her big break, her husband is assigned to his paper's Rome bureau. As they struggle to keep their marriage together, their love is tested by career choices that keep them far apart.
You Gotta Stay Happy
Pilot Marvin Payne (James Stewart) reluctantly gives shelter to dizzy heiress Dee Dee Dillwood (Joan Fontaine) in a delightful screwball comedy full of romance and mirth.
